One of Showa’s (Showa-era = 1926-1989) best hit “Oyoge! Taiyaki-kun”
sang by Shimon Masato is approved as the best sold single record
in Japan by the Guinness World Records Company of England, and is going to be on next year’s “Guinness World Records 2009”. 4.55 Million records were sold.
Regarding the timing of acknowledgement after 33 years, the Guinness representative explained, “it has to be applied to be recognized by Guinness. Although the popularity of the song is known by any Japanese person, it was not on the book since it hadn't been requested to be listed.”
Ah, Taiyaki-kun. Ne! *(“tai”= red snapper / “taiyaki” is a sweet red bean filled waffle shaped like a fish. / “oyoge!” = swim!)
Listen a minute. See, the other day, I got a mail so I opened it thinking, “Wow, it’s been a while”. It said, “Do you wanna go red snapper fishing? We are going, do you want to come along?” Believe or not, I read it during my stage play practice. Having read it during the break time at the stage practice, I ended up replying, “no can do, I want to but can't do.”
The day of the red snapper fishing was yesterday. I had the practice. Well, so it’s in a way a happy yet sad story.
That’s all, from Ohno Satoshi!

hi,
could i ask if the song is about the fish that had been urged to swim away from the cook (i remember music station had featured something like this)
i wonder if what is the red snapper in our place? maybe i have already bought it but just didn't know that it was it...
Taiyaki looks like this.

geez, i see, thanks (**,) it was like the japanese mooncakes that was sold in malls...(with chocolate filling, it would surely be delicious)
there is also a writing about the song in the wikipedia, it was a tragic song though, being eaten in the end...
